It was toward the end of the fourth time I had run this particular campaign. This was the second campaign I ever wrote and one of my most successful campaigns as I have run it four times.
The characters had finally found the legendary Cave of Anaba, a dangerous cave hidden in the Matenda Desert that can only be opened with the legendary dwarven artifact The Concordant. This cave had been built long ago to protect one of Crayne's most powerful natural magic anchors (a place where the magic realm and the material realm are very closely connected and thus magic flows through it). The players were hunting a powerful vampire who wanted to use the power of Anaba to cause a meteoric cataclysm over the peaceful land of Malia. This cataclysmic event could only take place on the first minute of the new millenia and required a complex ritual to complete. To make things worse the players only had 15 minutes until midnight and the cave was full of traps. The players had no time to take it slow!
The players had just survived a balancing trap in the first room of the dungeon, were they had to balance on the surface of a 30m long slippery, sand-covered stone carving of a snake whilst over the top of an 'bottomless' pit. The players now had an ominous wide corridor that was strangely well lit ahead of them. The corridor had suspicious small gaps in the walls where it looked like things could pass through.
